The roundtables will help to define the scope and possible substantive focus of PolyCIVIS in supporting institutional learning on Euro-African cooperation on climate, environment and energy in the context of the polycrisis. Given that the relevant European and African institutional and policy frameworks are still nascent and evolving rapidly, it will be important for PolyCIVIS to maintain a strong focus on how both continents are confronting these challenges in practice (rather than on paper).
Agora Fora aim to bridge the distance between research and practices surrounding European and African policy-making. They consist of a facilitated inter-sectoral dialogue between researchers and practitioners. Over the course of a two-hour long open debate under Chatham House rule, academic experts, public officials and civil society experts will discuss the environmental dimension of the polycrisis and related “polysolutions”. The Agora Forum in Dakar will also provide the occasion for a hybrid event, launching a policy brief on climate-induced migration.

This workshop aims to bring together the network to collaboratively share ideas on the PolyCIVIS’ final conference in Aix and our book on polycrisis. By fostering interdisciplinary discussions, the session will ensure that both initiatives reflect diverse perspectives and contribute to a shared understanding of polycrisis within a Euro-African framework. By the end of the workshop, we will have a good overview of participants’ opinions and agendas regarding the Aix conference and the final book. We aim at finalizing the draft for the call for papers and participations. A structured agenda for the book project will be developed, detailing key milestones, proposed editors, thematic focuses, and organizational aspects. Additionally, discussions will help refine the conceptual framework for both the book and the conference, ensuring coherence and intellectual depth in their development

A first part of this workshop will focus on (a) a common understanding for the intended contents of the Polycrisis Handbook (shared references, common definitions, participatory teaching tools, reproducible instructional formats aimed at a variety of audiences); and (b) different pedagogies that this handbook could be used to accompany, e.g. from frontal teaching to service learning and on to participatory action research. For all these topics, simple examples will be used to reflect upon. A second part of the workshop will focus on facilitating the participants to open/explore/close themselves (in a gamestorming-style format) some options for the design of the handbook using a few simple scenarios (e.g. two different real-life manifestations of the polycrisis), and reflecting upon different contents (e.g. context, facts, narratives, analysis, theory) and rich-media formats (e.g. video, podcasts, infographics, interactive apps) that could best help to teach and learn from each scenario.
